The Legal Framework for Countering Terrorist and Violent Extremist Content Online

The Swiss Institute of Comparative Law, in collaboration with the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (UN CTED), the ICT4Peace Foundation, and the Ethics and Communication Law Centre of the Università della Svizzera Italiana will organise a conference on The Legal Framework for Countering Terrorist and Violent Extremist Content Online, on 8 December 2017, in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The conference, which will follow a multistakeholder approach, is aimed at providing a better understanding of the emerging international normative framework and the diversity of legal approaches followed by states and the private sector regarding measures such as monitoring, blocking, and taking down of terrorist and violent extremist content online. While the focus will be on legal aspects, the technical and economic aspects of such measures will also be discussed during the event.

The programme will feature four sessions focuse on factual and legal background on ICT and terroristm/violent extremism; international and regional legal frameworks regarding monitoring, blocking, and taking downs of terrorist and violent extremist content online; practices and national legal frameworks regarding monitoring, blocking, and taking downs of terrorist and violent extremist content online; and best practices in tackling such content.
